In Andrés' words: "the pleasure of freely exploring any subject at all in the world through poetry is a great gift. Right after Brooklyn College, I started a small literary magazine called The U.S. Latino Review. Though the magazine was discontinued, I used this early experience to found another small literary journal, The Teacher’s Voice. With this magazine, I get to see the creative writing of teachers and others not only from New York City but from all around the country; this is an extraordinary privilege that is ideally wedded to the privilege of being a poet. This marriage allows me to pursue my own personal aspirations while attempting to serve others in important social-political, social justice, psychological, and spiritual struggles at a very precarious time in American and world history." |
